Automated Security Is the Clear Path Forward

Greg Storm

CyberArk published the results of a survey titled “65% of Office Workers Bypass Cybersecurity to Improve Productivity” (CyberArk) . On the one hand, this is a pretty shocking result - you train employees, put procedures in place, pass your SOC2 audits, they sign their employee handbook, etc., and still 65% of your employees evade the rules. On the other hand, this resonates with all of our experiences. Honestly, who among us follows all of the rules all of the time?

A couple of the statistics CyberArk cites include :

  • C-level executives are most likely to fall victim to phishing scams, 62% say they have clicked on links in phishing scams.

  • 60% of employees use their personal devices for work.

  • Of those, 20% say they’ve used public wifi while accessing work accounts.

No wonder hacking is only getting worse.

From a management perspective, it is troubling that employees are circumventing the rules in the interest of productivity. Employees are telling management loud and clear that they can’t get their work done with all of these “rules”. One of the fundamental issues is that organizations expect employees to play an active role, i.e. using unique passwords, inspecting links before clicking, etc. Frankly, this isn’t a priority for employees.

If your employees are this bad, imagine what your customers are doing…

We need to implement tools that automatically work to keep our employees and customers safe. Automated tools that include everyone, all the time without exceptions, opt-ins, or permissions. If you want to learn how, hit us up at www.useideem.com
